How will you talk about environmental literacy? This is a featured page

Currently there is a statewide groundswell of activities and interest in environmental education, but a lack of a coordinated strategy to enable collaborative work toward our goal of developing environmentally literate citizens. Colorado has the opportunity to empower the varied institutions working in environmental education to provide high quality education focused on developing 21st century skills. The process has the potential to bring environmental education opportunities to every student in every school across Colorado and dramatically increase environmental literacy in Colorado.

Some ideas to get you started...
  • Share stories about environmental literacy in action.
  • Connect with parents and families about environmental literacy.
  • Send a message of possibility.
  • Remember to Think Environment. Talk environment. Change environment.
  • Share the vision for environmentally literate schools where learners develop the knowledge and skills they need to make environmentally responsible choices.

Talking about Environmental Literacy is important. Because the issue is so complex, helping people to understand all the complexities is important. We know what that literacy refers to the ability to read and write; well, environmrntal literacy can be thought about the ability to know and understand the processes of the environment.
